The Timekeeper of Mars – Sol 812

In this image from Sol 812, we uncover what appears to be a **humanoid figure partially emerging from underground**. The being’s **head and arm** are clearly visible, and on its wrist we see what resembles a **black wristwatch**—a detail so specific it inspired the name: **The Timekeeper of Mars**.

Captured in Gale Crater’s **fine sediment zone**, this region features **fractured terrain and layered deposits**, shaped by ancient water and wind erosion. The MAHLI camera was inspecting surface textures when this anomaly appeared—partially buried, partially revealed, like a **sentinel emerging from sleep**.

The figure’s **bizarre face** may be a **mask**, a **biological adaptation**, or a **cultural artifact**. The wristwatch-like object suggests **technology**, **timekeeping**, or **ritual significance**. This being could be a **guardian**, a **record keeper**, or a **Martian elder**—marking time beneath the surface until the moment of contact.
