FIVE YEARS OF CURIOSITY: SLOW-WALK TO THE TRUTH

Posted by Mike Seguin · August 2017

        MISSION LOG: MILESTONE ANALYSIS

ROVER: **Curiosity** (MSL) · DURATION: **5 Earth Years**

        MILESTONE: **Landing Anniversary** (August 5, 2012 - August 5, 2017)

DATA SOURCE: **Front Left Hazcam Imagery**

August 5, 2017, marked the five-year anniversary of the **Curiosity Rover** landing on the Red Planet. In recognition of this milestone, NASA’s JPL released a stunning, yet strangely revealing, **visual timeline** compiled from the rover’s front left Hazcam imagery.

The video documents Curiosity's path from the landing site, across the crater rims, and up toward the scientifically compelling clay-rich slopes of Mount Sharp. While the official narrative celebrates the kilometers covered, the true takeaway for **Mars Alive** is the sheer **slowness of the traverse**. Five years to travel what a manned mission could cover in a few weeks speaks volumes about the **strategic pace** of the mission.

Is this glacial speed due to technical necessity, or is it a deliberate effort to manage the release of information and ensure only carefully curated data—free of undisguised anomalies—makes it back to the public? The mission pace is directly linked to the cover-up strategy.
